CWD: Potters Wheel DUO
November 11 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
$75.00Creative Weekday Deal!
Workshop is for 2 participants!
Join us for an hour, introducing to the art of throwing clay on a wheel!
We will provide an overview on the fundamentals such as; preparing clay (wedging), sticking, centering, opening & lifting, trimming, and use of basic tools.
We will build on the fundamentals with the goal of each participant being able to pull up a small cylinder by day three.
We will also explore other clay techniques such as hand-building, coiling & slip casting.
Striving for you to be able to create something out of clay by the end of the session & take it home right away!
We use air dry clay on purpose 🙂 pottery fired in the kiln, not prepared perfectly, can explode when fired. Studios provide the warning about the risk of firing clay, however when there are options for beginners not to lose their first pieces, why not use them!
Once the clay is dry, there are many options to paint, ink and seal the pieces for LONG time enjoyment. You can also come back to the studio with dried pieces to paint & have sealed, only having to pay the basic $8 studio fee!
Ages 10+ but Please READ below!
PLEASE READ!!! We need to your help for an enjoyable time learning something new!!!
Throwing clay is FUN but also work. There is a push and pull against a machine that requires height & upper body strength to control the clay to center & “pull” sides up to form a cylinder, please consider this when choosing to enroll.
Just like we have to wait to drive a car, the potter’s wheel is a machine and size does matter… so not to be frustrated learning the potter’s wheel, young makers need to be able to brace their arms against their body (inner thighs or stomach) while sitting and not have to “reach” out too far to the center of the wheel so “centering” the clay on the wheel is possible.
Our wheels are designed for beginners; however, we do need your help to encourage the right time to explore the FUNdamentals of throwing clay on the wheel and have a good first-time experience!
It also can get messy! This is not a workshop where we suggest wearing our best shoes and clothing! Clay is washable, but it is earthen clay and we use lots of water 🙂

Each participant must register, including children and complete our participation waiver prior to start time.
